Hotel and leisure experience
I’ve worked on a wide variety of hotel and leisure construction projects over the past 25 years. Highlights include the rebuilding of the Great Western Hotel in Paddington and advising various parties on disputes relating to the Great Eastern Hotel in Liverpool Street.
Recent work
I acted for Surrey County Cricket Club on the redevelopment of the Vauxhall End of the Brit Oval into a state-of-the-art, four-tier grandstand. The work was completed on time and on budget – ready for England to win the Ashes. Next up is the Pavilion End, which will be redeveloped to provide hotel and hospitality facilities.
Why should clients choose you?
I’m down to earth and practical, but very commercial. I like to think these qualities form the basis for enduring client relationships, along with the most important quality of all – trust.
Challenges to meet
Managing and completing construction projects in time for the Olympics – the next five years are going to fly by!
Dream destination
My vote goes to Italy. There are still parts that are completely unspoilt; the countryside is beautiful; the food and wine unsurpassed; and the people really know how to enjoy themselves.
The place to stay
Chewton Glen in Hampshire – lovely hotel, superlative service. The place to eat: Chez Bruce in Wandsworth (great atmosphere and a foodie’s heaven, with a cheese board to die for). The place to drink: American Bar at The Savoy.
